Preview: Ada Cougars vs. Plainview Indians
Two dominant guards in Sadie Epps and Emilee Hedger are getting ready to go toe-to-toe. The Ada Cougars will head out on the road to face off against the Plainview Indians at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ada has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
Ada scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Tuesday. They snuck past Dickson with a 50-46 win.
Ada's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Makaviaya Nelson led the charge by scoring ten points. Those ten points set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Gracey Dotson, who scored nine points.
Meanwhile, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Plainview beat Guthrie 35-31 on Saturday. Given Plainview's advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 148th, while Guthrie is ranked 332nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Plainview to victory, but perhaps none more so than Hedger, who scored 11 points along with four steals. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for her. Another player making a difference was Marya Southerland, who scored 11 points along with seven rebounds and six blocks.
Ada's record now sits at 2-4. As for Plainview, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Keep an eye on the arc in Saturday's game: Ada have been dynamite from deep this season, having only drained 36.2% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Plainview, though, as they've only drained 35.4% of their threes per game this season. Given Ada's sizeable advantage in that area, Plainview will need to find a way to close that gap.
Ada came up short against Plainview when the teams last played back in January of 2021, falling 59-51. Can Ada avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
