Basketball Game Preview: Hillcrest Panthers vs. Wilson Wildcats

Hillcrest hasn't had much luck against Wilson recently, but that could start to change on Monday. A feisty cat fight will be fought when the Panthers face off against the Wildcats at 6:30 p.m. Hillcrest will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

Hillcrest is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Thursday. They enjoyed a cozy 50-33 victory over South Oak Cliff. 50 seems to be a good number for the Panthers as the team scooped up a win with the same number of points in their previous game.

Hillcrest got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Clauriannys Berrios out in front who went 6 for 9 to rack up 13 points along with six steals and five boards. Hillcrest is 10-2 when Berrios posts five or more steals, but 5-11 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubrey Norton, who posted ten points in addition to seven rebounds and five steals.

Meanwhile, in a tight matchup that could have gone either way, Wilson made off with a 37-36 win over Seagoville. The victory continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Dragons: they've now won three in a row.

Wilson's win came from a few key players Hillcrest will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Kam Rose, who went 5 of 12 en route to 15 points. Harper Gibbs was another key player, putting up seven points.

Hillcrest's record is now 15-13. As for Wilson, their win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 20-15.

Everything came up roses for Hillcrest against Wilson in their previous matchup back in February of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-11 victory. In that game, Hillcrest amassed a halftime lead of 27-7, an impressive feat they'll look to repeat on Monday.
