Softball Recap: Churchill County Wins Going Away Against South Tahoe

Churchill County never let their opponents score on Saturday. They put the hurt on the South Tahoe Vikings with a sharp 17-0 victory. That looming 17-0 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Greenwave yet this season.

Janessa Bettencourt made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, getting on base in all three of her plate appearances with four RBI and two runs.

In other batting news, Churchill County let Layla Walker and Dana Buckmaster run wild. Walker got on base in all three of her plate appearances with three runs, one triple, and two RBI, while Buckmaster scored three runs while going 3-for-3. That's the most runs Walker has posted since back in March of 2024. Maddison Keller was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances.

Churchill County always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .760. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Churchill County and bumps their season record up to 4-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for South Tahoe, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-5.

Churchill County will have a chance to go back-to-back against South Tahoe: the pair will be back at it again later today.
