Baseball Recap: Monday's Loss Ends Cranberry Area's Winning Streak

Cranberry Area dropped their record down to 5-5 on Monday, which also ended the team's four-game streak of wins. They fell 5-2 to the Moniteau Warriors. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Berries of the 12-5 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2024.

Ben Lindenberg was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he pitched 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, Cranberry Area saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Marchinke, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one run.

As for Moniteau, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-5 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.8 runs on average over those games.

On Moniteau's side, the team relied heavily on Weston Cook, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one double and one RBI. That double was Cook's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Brennan Kelly, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Cranberry Area is set to challenge their familiar foe Karns City at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Moniteau will take on rival Clarion Area at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
