Basketball Recap: North Gaston Skates Past Cherryville with Ease + How To Watch

North Gaston's contest on Thursday was close up to the half, but then they kicked things up a notch. They blew past the Cherryville Ironmen 92-64. The Wildcats have seen this before: they got the W the last time they saw the Ironmen, too.

North Gaston got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Aiden Smith out in front who almost dropped a double-double with 18 points and nine boards. Another player making a difference was Payton McRae, who shot 55% from the field to rack up 16 points and three steals.

North Gaston was working as a unit and finished the game with 16 assists. That's the most assists they've posted since back in December of 2024.

Cherryville's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Paxton Pruett, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. Pruett is also on a roll when it comes to field goal percentage, as he's posted one of at least 55% in the last three games he's played dating back to last season. Talon Dalton was another key player, putting up nine points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

The victory was the third in a row for North Gaston, bringing their record up to 3-0. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 70.3 points this season. As for Cherryville, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-1.

North Gaston will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Stuart W. Cramer at 7:30 p.m. on the 5th. As for Cherryville, they have already played their next matchup, a 67-59 victory against Lake Lure Classical Academy on the 21st.
