Softball Recap: Milpitas Turns Things Around After Road Loss

There's no place like home for Milpitas, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with an 8-4 win over the Wilcox Chargers on Thursday. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 12-0 back in April.

Marissa Gil spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on two hits.

At the plate, Chloe Cabrera was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with one home run, four RBI, and two doubles. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Destiny Solis, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

Milpitas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wilcox only posted a batting average of .077.

Milpitas' victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-13. As for Wilcox, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Milpitas will head out to take on Capuchino at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Mustangs will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Trojans surely won't give up without a fight. As for Wilcox, they are taking a road trip to square off against Gunn at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Chargers are facing the Titans at the right time seeing as the Titans are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
