Basketball Game Preview: Pinedale Wranglers vs. Cody Broncs

The Pinedale Wranglers will square off against the Cody Broncs at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams are coming into the contest red-hot, with Pinedale sitting on 12 straight wins and Cody on nine.

Pinedale is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Wyoming's top teams: Lander Valley, who was ranked 13th at the time (Pinedale was ranked fourth). Pinedale walked away with a 67-54 victory over Lander Valley on Saturday. The score was all tied up 28-28 at the break, but the Wranglers were the better team in the second half.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Pinedale to victory, but perhaps none more so than Elyn Bowers, who went 10-for-21 on her way to 25 points and six steals. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Bowers has scored at least a third of Pinedale's points. Erica Wilson was another key player, going 7-for-13 en route to 20 points and four steals.

Meanwhile, Cody humbled Lovell with a 64-12 victory. The Broncs have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won nine matchups by 23 points or more this season.

Cody pushed their record up to 14-3 with the win, which was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season. The wins came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 29.2 points over those games. As for Pinedale, their record is now 16-1.

Pinedale was taken down by Cody 56-23 in their previous matchup back in February of 2018. Can Pinedale avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
