Basketball Recap: First Baptist Takes a Loss

If First Baptist was riding high fresh off their 61-38 takedown of Lancaster Baptist last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. First Baptist had to suffer through a 74-40 loss at the hands of the Newport Christian Seahawks. The match marked First Baptist's lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Several First Baptist players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Juan Joel Hernandez, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 12 points and six rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Maximos Gonzalez, who posted 11 points and five rebounds.

With the loss, First Baptist broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 5-2. As for Newport Christian, they pushed their record up to 6-0 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

First Baptist will venture away from home to take on Varsity Opponent at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Newport Christian, they will welcome Tarbut V' Torah at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Tarbut V' Torah will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Newport Christian surely won't give up without a fight.
