Basketball Recap: Dolores Starts off Right with Win over Bayfield

Dolores had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They secured a 54-49 W over the Bayfield Wolverines on Tuesday. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 43-22 victory the Wolverines walked away with the last time they faced one another back in December of 2024.

Dolores got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Autumn Settles out in front who almost dropped a double-double with nine points and nine rebounds. That's the most points Settles has posted since back in January. Emilynn Hill was another key player, going 5-for-8 to rack up 11 points and eight steals.

Dolores was working as a unit and finished the game with 18 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Bayfield only racked up nine.

Despite the loss, Bayfield still got an impressive performance from Vivien Clance, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Kieley White Thunder, who earned eight points and 13 rebounds.

Dolores didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 48-19 victory against Sangre de Cristo on the 4th. As for Bayfield, they will take on Creede at 2:00 p.m. on the 12th.
