Recap: Donahue Catholic Shamrocks vs. Riverside Christian Wranglers
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only The Donahue Catholic Shamrocks walked away with it. They took their game at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 28-0 victory over Riverside Christian. Donahue Catholic might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team's won eight contests by 28 points or more this season.
Leo Cantwell was his usual excellent self, rushing for 302 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Cantwell was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 66 yards. Donahue Catholic also got a significant boost from John McCabe, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 93 yards.
On the other side of the ball, a lot of the credit has to go to Donahue Catholic's defense and their six sacks. The heavy lifting was done by Athanasius Niewald and Isaiah Loboda who racked up four sacks between them.
Donahue Catholic's victory was their eighth straight at home (dating back to last season), which pushed their record up to 9-1. It's not like the team was facing easy opposition over that stretch either, as it included 10-1 Shorecrest Prep and 9-2 All Saints' Academy (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 63% over those games). As for Riverside Christian, their loss ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-2.
Donahue Catholic will face off against Shorecrest Prep at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Shorecrest Prep is currently enjoying a perfect season and no doubt want to keep things rolling. Riverside Christian does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
