Baseball Recap: Chula Vista Wins Going Away Against Castle Park

Chula Vista gave up the first runs on Tuesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They blew past the Castle Park Trojans 12-4. The win continues a trend for the Spartans in their matchups with the Trojans: they've now won seven in a row.

Chula Vista got a great performance from Jorge Lopez as he struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Lopez also tossed no walks, which is notable because the Spartans are 5-1-2 when he allows at most one walk, but 6-7 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Eric Zepeda was a standout: he got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Isaiah Martinez was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.

Chula Vista always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .524. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Castle Park only posted an OBP of .333.

Chula Vista's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 11-8-2. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 7.3 runs. As for Castle Park, they are on a six-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 6-14.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Chula Vista beat the Trojans by a score of 10-0 on Thursday.
