Softball Recap: Holmes Aces vs. Camden County Bruins
Holmes extended their losing streak to three on Thursday, dropping their season record down to 8-9 in the process. They took a 9-4 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Camden County Bruins. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Bruins this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 on Monday.
Mia Hoffer was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. She pitched five innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits. Hoffer was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run and two RBI.
In other batting news, Harper Evans made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with one run and one double.
As for Camden County, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 12-5. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games.
On Camden County's side, they let Audrey Jones and Julia Doppler run wild. Jones got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base, while Doppler went a perfect 3-for-3 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits Doppler has posted since back in March of 2024. Ellie Barker was another key player, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Holmes will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Bertie at 6:00 p.m. on the 28th. The Falcons have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 14.83 runs per game on average), something the Aces will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for Camden County, they will square off against East Wilkes at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
