Softball Recap: Churchville-Chili's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Thursday

Churchville-Chili fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Spencerport on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Rangers by a score of 6-5. The Saints' defeat signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.

Bailey DiGiacomo spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned (and one unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Churchville-Chili saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kaitlyn Pozzuolo, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Pozzuolo has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

Churchville-Chili's loss dropped their record down to 6-6. As for Spencerport, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-5 record this season.

Churchville-Chili is taking a road trip to take on Victor at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Saints' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Blue Devils have averaged an impressive 10.7 runs per game this season.
