Softball Recap: Newburyport Takes a Loss

Newburyport was not able to break out of their rough patch on Monday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They lost 24-6 to the North Reading Hornets. The Clippers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Hornets apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in May of 2024.

Isla DeVivo and Caroline Mullen stepped up to the plate in a big way. DeVivo got on base in all three of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI, while Mullen went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Lilah Thompson, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

Newburyport's defeat dropped their record down to 3-6. As for North Reading, their victory ended a four-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-1.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Newburyport will head out to take on Manchester Essex at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for North Reading, they will venture away from home to square off against Rockport at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
