Basketball Recap: Cypress Springs Takes a Tough Playoff Loss

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Cypress Springs can now relate to. They took a 55-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Willis Wildkats on Friday. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as the Panthers came into the matchup with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 78th, while the Wildkats are ranked 270th).

Willis' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from SJ Young, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 17 boards. That's the most rebounds Young has posted since back in December of 2024. Jackson Day was another key player, putting up ten points and three steals.

Cypress Springs' loss dropped their record down to 27-10. As for Willis, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-10.

Cypress Springs does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Willis, they will face off against Horn on Monday. Willis is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 55.6 points per game this season.
