Softball Recap: Piedmont Extends Winning Streak to Five

Piedmont had already won four in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 11.8 runs) and they went ahead and made it five on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Central Academy Cougars with a sharp 16-5 win. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 17-1 back in March.

Sarah Belk was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances. That's the most stolen bases she has posted since back in April of 2024. Charli Lutz also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Piedmont always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .676. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Central Academy only posted an OBP of .292.

Piedmont's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Central Academy, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-8.

Piedmont didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next match, a 6-4 loss against Alexander Central on the 5th. As for Central Academy, they will be playing at home against Forest Hills at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
