Basketball Recap: Cranbrook Kingswood Takes a Loss

On Monday, the Cranbrook Kingswood Cranes took a blow against the Bloomfield Hills Black Hawks, falling 68-31.

Despite the loss, Cranbrook Kingswood had strong showings from Sienna Laverde, who posted six points, and Justine Casey, who scored 13 points. Those six points gave Laverde a new career-high.

Briana Young was her usual excellent self, going 12 for 16 en route to 30 points in addition to seven steals and five boards for Bloomfield Hills. Young has become a key player for Bloomfield Hills: the team is 5-2 when she posts at least 15 points, but 1-6 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Evia Barbu, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 14 points and four steals.

Cranbrook Kingswood's defeat was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 4-11. As for Bloomfield Hills, their win ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 6-8.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Cranbrook Kingswood will host Shrine Catholic at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. As for Bloomfield Hills, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Rochester at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Rochester will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Bloomfield Hills surely won't give up without a fight.
