Baseball Recap: Starpoint Comes Up Short

Starpoint had lost three straight at home, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-6 to make it four. They fell just short of the Sweet Home Panthers by a score of 2-0. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Spartans of the 1-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Sweet Home, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a massive bump to their 3-3-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.

For Sweet Home's part, not much got past Aiden Mroz, who gave up just a hit and racked up six Ks to keep Starpoint off the board. Mroz also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because the Panthers are 2-1 when he allows at most two earned runs, but 1-2-1 otherwise.

On the hitting side, Sweet Home's win was truly a team effort as three different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Rocco Panepinto, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run.

While Starpoint had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair's next game is a rematch scheduled at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.
