Volleyball Recap: Great Crossing Comes Up Short in High-Profile Contest with Lexington Catholic

Great Crossing faced Lexington Catholic in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. The Warhawks fell just short of the Knights by a score of 3-2. The Warhawks haven't had much luck with the Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Great Crossing wouldn't go down easily and took Lexington Catholic into a fifth set but they suffered a heartbreaking seven-point loss. The final score came out to 18-25, 25-15, 25-19, 20-25, 15-8.

Defeat or not, Great Crossing got some senior leadership from Jenna Browning and Brooklyn Walls. Browning had 26 digs and nine assists, while Walls had ten digs and two aces. Those 26 digs set a new season-high mark for Browning.

Maddy Warner had a dynamite game For Lexington Catholic., getting 20 digs and two aces. That's the most digs Warner has posted over her last seven games.

Great Crossing's loss dropped their record down to 14-5. As for Lexington Catholic, the victory keeps them at an undefeated 14-0.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Great Crossing will square off against Frederick Douglass at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Lexington Catholic, they will venture away from home to square off against Madison Central at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
