Football Game Preview: South Aiken Thoroughbreds vs. Gilbert Indians

The South Aiken Thoroughbreds will take on the Gilbert Indians at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both come into the matchup bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

South Aiken got their first taste of in-conference action on Friday and they started things off strong. They came out on top against Airport by a score of 28-15. The Thoroughbreds haven't had any issues with the Eagles recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.

South Aiken found their leader in sophomore Kaeleb O'Berry, who rushed for 116 yards and two TDs on only 11 carries. O'Berry got the majority of those rushing yards when he took off on a run that went for an incredible 72 yards. Another player making a difference was Kyson Mcleod, who picked up 99 receiving yards and one touchdown.

South Aiken's defense made their presence known, laying out the QB three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Ray Harris, Rasco Hopkins, and Joey Yaughn, who each picked up one sack apiece. South Aiken got some further help from Nick Starlings: he made 11 total tackles (1.0 for loss).

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Gilbert, who bounced back after a loss on the road last Friday. They took down Aiken 30-13 on Friday. The Indians' offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.

The win got South Aiken back to even at 3-3. As for Gilbert, their victory bumped their record up to 2-3.

South Aiken was able to grind out a solid win over Gilbert in their previous meeting back in October of 2024, winning 35-28. Will the Thoroughbreds repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
