Baseball Recap: Mcdonogh Drops Highest Score of Season Against Annapolis Area Christian

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask McDonogh). Everything went their way against Annapolis Area Christian on Wednesday as they made off with a 24-1 victory. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for McDonogh considering their two-run performance the matchup before.

Leo Antwerpen made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because McDonogh is undefeated when he allows at most one earned run, but 3-4 otherwise. Antwerpen was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one RBI.

In other batting news, Andy Lambert was a standout: he got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. He has become a key player for McDonogh: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-4 otherwise. William Moore was another key player, going 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and two runs.

McDonogh was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .483. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Annapolis Area Christian only posted a batting average of .118.

McDonogh has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-4 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Annapolis Area Christian, they have been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.

McDonogh will head out on the road to challenge Glenelg Country at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Eagles are facing the Dragons at the right time seeing as the Dragons are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Annapolis Area Christian, they will be playing in front of their home fans against St. Mary's at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday.
