Baseball Recap: Laytonville Comes Up Short

Laytonville had lost nine straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Monday they dropped their record down to 0-7 to make it ten. They came up short against the Tomales Braves, falling 15-5. That's two games in a row now that the Warriors have lost by exactly ten runs.

As for Tomales, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-7. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

For Tomales' part, Nate Ballou made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Ballou has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one hit in six consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs. He has become a key player for Tomales: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-7 otherwise.

In other batting news, Erick Tamez was a standout: he went a perfect 2-for-2 with four RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Shaun Pelayo, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one stolen base.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Laytonville will face off against Point Arena at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Tomales, they will take on Calistoga at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
