Baseball Game Preview: Springfield vs. Washington Panthers

Springfield are taking a road trip to take on the Washington Panthers at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Washington took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on Springfield, who comes in off a win.

On Wednesday, Springfield made easy work of Athens and carried off a 14-2 victory.

Karter Marks spent all five innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned runs on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He is becoming a predictor of Springfield's success: when he posts at least eight strikeouts the team is 2-1 (and 8-10 when he doesn't).

On the hitting side, Springfield got a massive performance out of Liam Watts, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, three runs, and one triple. Those three runs gave Watts a new career-high. Jacob Scheffler was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run and three runs.

Springfield was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .500. They are a perfect 5-0 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.

Meanwhile, Washington unfortunately witnessed the end of their nine-game winning streak on Wednesday. They fell just short of East Peoria by a score of 4-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Panthers have suffered since March 28th.

Washington's defeat dropped their record down to 15-6. As for Springfield, their record is now 10-11.

Springfield might still be hurting after the 13-0 loss they got from Washington when the teams last played back in May of 2025. Can Springfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
