Softball Recap: Marquez Snaps Ten-Game Streak of Wins on the Road

Marquez dropped their record down to 21-2 on Saturday, which also ended the team's ten-game streak of wins on the road. They took a 6-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Garfield Bulldogs. The Gladiators were red-hot at the plate heading into the matchup (they scored no less than ten runs in the seven games prior), but the Bulldogs' pitcher proved too tough.

Marquez saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Delilah Sanchez, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base. Sanchez has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played.

As for Garfield, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 15-7. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.3 runs on average over those games.

On Garfield's side, Nadia Carrillo made a splash no matter where she played. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over seven innings pitched. Carrillo was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one run.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Madilyn Mu?oz, who went 3-for-4 with one home run and five RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.

Marquez does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Garfield, they will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Marshall at 3:00 p.m. on the 21st. The Barristers have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 7.38 runs per game on average), something the Bulldogs will no doubt try to take advantage of.
