Football Game Preview: McDonald Blue Devils vs. Lowellville Rockets

The McDonald Blue Devils are taking a road trip to take on the Lowellville Rockets at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (McDonald has six straight wins, Lowellville has five straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

On Friday, McDonald really took it to Waterloo for the full four quarters, racking up a 47-14 victory. With the Blue Devils ahead 34-0 at the half, the matchup was all but over already.

McDonald's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Drew Zajack led the charge by rushing for 116 yards and one touchdown on only seven carries. That's the most rushing yards Zajack has posted since back in October of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Marvin, who threw for 193 yards and a pair of TDs while completing 87.5% of his passes.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: McDonald was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 202 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Waterloo only rushed for 99.

Meanwhile, Lowellville played a tough game on Friday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Mineral Ridge and fell 48-16. Rockets fans who chose to attend the game sure picked the wrong one: it was the first time the team has lost against the Rams since Friday.

Lowellville's loss dropped their record down to 1-5. As for McDonald, their record now sits at 6-0.

McDonald lost to Lowellville on the road by a decisive 34-20 margin when the teams last played back in November of 2024. Thankfully for the Blue Devils, Geno Perry (who rushed for 302 yards and five scores while picking up 10.8 yards per carry) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
