Basketball Recap: Clinton Takes a Loss

If Clinton was feeling good fresh off their 74-51 takedown of Columbia on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Clinton Red Devils took a 63-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Laurens Raiders on Saturday. The game was a 25-25 toss-up at halftime, but the Red Devils couldn't quite close it out.

Defeat or not, Clinton got some senior leadership from Tushawan Richardson and Devin Swindler. Richardson posted 25 points and five rebounds, while Swindler put up 19 points and six boards. Richardson's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least 21 points.

Laurens found their leader in sophomore Q Quinton Watts, who went 10 for 19 en route to 24 points and five steals. With that strong performance, Watts is now averaging an impressive 2.1 steals per game. Another player making a difference was Tyj Narrius Jones, who went 6 of 15 to rack up 19 points in addition to seven rebounds and four steals.

Clinton's loss dropped their record down to 10-7. As for Laurens, their win bumped their record up to 16-7.

Clinton didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 76-38 victory against Chester on the 4th. As for Laurens, they have also already played their next match, a 54-49 win against Westside on the 4th.
