Recap: Pinecrest Patriots vs. Scotland Fighting Scots
The Pinecrest Patriots were the 58-53 winner over the Scotland Fighting Scots when they last played one another back in February of 2023, but their luck changed this time around. Pinecrest lost to Scotland on the road by a decisive 57-43 margin on Tuesday. While losing is never fun, Pinecrest can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 361st, while Scotland is ranked 141st).
Pinecrest's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Zanodiya Mcnair, who scored nine points. Another player making a difference was Ava Depenbrock, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
This is the second loss in a row for Pinecrest and nudges their season record down to 4-10. As for Scotland, the victory was the seventh in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 11-1.
Pinecrest will look to defend their home court on Friday against Hoke County at 6:00 p.m. Hopefully Hoke County focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Wednesday. As for Scotland, they will head out on the road to challenge Lee County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
