Basketball Recap: Monroe Central Finds Playoff Glory Versus Daleville

With a playoff win on the line, Monroe Central rose to the challenge on Saturday. They came out on top against the Daleville Broncos by a score of 66-58. The victory was nothing new for the Golden Bears as they're now sitting on seven straight.

Monroe Central was led to victory by Easton Foster and Tashaun Beatty. Foster dropped a double-double with 16 points and 12 boards, while Beatty shot 75% from the field on his way to 18 points and seven rebounds. Foster has been hot for a while, having posted eight or more boards the last 23 times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Konkle, who posted eight points.

When it comes to explaining why Daleville lost, don't look at Hunter Suchyna. Despite the final result, he went 12-for-22 en route to 33 points and six rebounds. Suchyna is becoming a predictor of Daleville's success: when he posts at least 30 points the team is 3-1 (and 6-15 when he doesn't). Cooper Sexton was another key player, shooting 45% from the field to rack up 12 points and six boards.

Monroe Central's win bumped their record up to 19-6. As for Daleville, with the loss, they broke their four-game winning streak and moved their record to 9-16.

Coming up, Monroe Central will square off against Kouts at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Monroe Central has given up an average of 49.8 points per game this season, so hopefully the team got some defensive drills in this week. Daleville does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
