Baseball Recap: Saturday's Loss Ends Nucla's Winning Streak

It was a good run, but Nucla unfortunately witnessed the end of their five-game winning streak on Saturday. They fell 11-8 to the La Veta Redhawks.

Paxtin Caruso was cooking despite his team's loss, going 3-for-4 with two runs and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Nucla's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 5-1 (and 2-4 when he doesn't). Coulter Shumway also deserves some recognition as he hit his first triple of the season.

Nucla's defeat dropped their record down to 7-5. As for La Veta, they have been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 8-3 record this season.

Nucla will head out to face off against Ignacio at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Bobcats have averaged an impressive 10.3 runs per game this season. As for La Veta, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Centennial at 2:00 p.m. The Redhawks are facing the Rams at the right time seeing as the Rams are stuck on a nine-game losing streak.
