Baseball Game Preview: Armijo Royals vs. Rodriguez Mustangs

Armijo is 1-9 against Rodriguez since April of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Royals will take on the Mustangs at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Armijo comes in on four and Rodriguez on five.

Armijo is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They blew past Florin 26-4 on Thursday. The Royals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight games by ten runs or more this season.

Meanwhile, while Rodriguez put up some runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Wood. The Mustangs walked away with a 4-0 victory over the Wildcats.

The result came thanks to Nick Schikore's shutout, as he gave up just three hits and racked up eight Ks. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Rodriguez's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Drew Beasley, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Beasley has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times he's played.

Rodriguez hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Wood struck out eight times.

Armijo's victory was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 14-7-1. The road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.7 runs on average over those games. As for Rodriguez, their record now sits at 13-7.

Armijo suffered a grim 13-2 defeat to Rodriguez in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Can the Royals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
