Preview: Owen Warhorses vs. Mitchell Mountaineers
The Owen Warhorses will be home for the holidays to greet the Mitchell Mountaineers at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: both teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Owen's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 68-62 hit to the loss column at the hands of Draughn. Owen has not had much luck with Draughn recently, as the team's come up short the last four times they've met.
The losing side was boosted by Daxon Mason, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. That's the first time this season that he scored 15 or more points. Eli Lewkowicz was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with five assists.
Meanwhile, Mitchell was the victim of a rough 87-61 loss at the hands of Unicoi County on Monday. While losing is never fun, Mitchell can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 404th in North Carolina, while Unicoi County is ranked 96th in Tennessee).
Owen's defeat dropped their record down to 1-7. As for Mitchell, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-2.
Owen beat Mitchell 63-53 in their previous matchup back in February. Will Owen repeat their success, or does Mitchell have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
