Preview: Millbrook Wildcats vs. Wake Forest Cougars
Millbrook is 2-8 against Wake Forest since November of 2014 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. The Millbrook Wildcats will be playing at home against the Wake Forest Cougars at 7:00 p.m. Millbrook will be hoping to continue their three-game streak of scoring more points each matchup than the last.
Millbrook put the finishing touches on their fifth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They blew past Knightdale 52-14 on the road. Given Millbrook's advantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Knightdale is ranked 252nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Millbrook had a senior duo take command as John Alarcon rushed for 110 yards and three touchdowns on only 15 carries and Mason Fortune threw for 235 yards and three touchdowns. Henry Hutchins also helped out with an impressive 82 receiving yards.
Meanwhile, Wake Forest had to suffer through a rough 75-27 loss at the hands of Rolesville. It was the first time this season that Wake Forest let down their fans at home.
Wake Forest's defeat came about despite a quality game from Kavon Simmons, who rushed for 84 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 240 yards and three touchdowns. Franklin Baret Jr. was another key contributor, picking up 84 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Millbrook's victory bumped their season record to 7-2 while Wake Forest's defeat dropped theirs to 6-3.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as the pair haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Millbrook commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.2 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like Wake Forest struggles in that department as they've been averaging 4.7 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Millbrook took their victory against Wake Forest in their previous meeting back in October of 2022 by a conclusive 34-14. Will Millbrook repeat their success, or does Wake Forest have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
