Softball Recap: Owen County Picks Up Third Consecutive Win

Owen County had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7 runs) and they went ahead and made it three on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Trimble County Raiders with a sharp 15-3 victory. Considering the Rebels have won 11 contests by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Hallie Tirey was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up three earned runs off six hits. Tirey was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with five RBI and one double. Those five RBI gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Owen County got a massive performance out of Andie Baumann, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with four runs and three RBI. That's the most hits Baumann has posted since back in March. Shaylee Glacken also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.

Owen County hit smart and finished the game with only one strikeout. The team has now struck out at least five batters in seven consecutive games.

Owen County's record is now 15-11. As for Trimble County, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 11-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Owen County will welcome Conner at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Trimble County, they will take on Fern Creek at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. The Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Tigers have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season.
