Basketball Recap: Coal Ridge Extends Winning Streak to Four

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Coal Ridge walked away with it. They had just enough and edged out the DSST: Green Valley Ranch Raptors 46-43. The victory was nothing new for the Titans as they're now sitting on four straight.

Coal Ridge was led to victory by Ben Simons and Alex Cornejo. Simons dropped a double-double with 15 points and ten boards, while Cornejo went 5-for-11 to rack up 13 points and six rebounds. Simons is on a roll when it comes to boards, as he's now pulled down eight or more in each of the last ten games he's played. Ethan Sanchez was another key player, putting up seven points and three steals.

Coal Ridge was working as a unit and finished the game with 12 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as DSST: Green Valley Ranch only three assists.

When it comes to explaining why DSST: Green Valley Ranch lost on Saturday, don't look at Skyyaire Russell. Despite the final result, he shot 50% from the field en route to 24 points and three steals. Those 24 points gave Russell a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Tong Bot, who posted ten points and seven rebounds.

Coal Ridge's win bumped their record up to 19-6. As for DSST: Green Valley Ranch, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 16-9 record this season.

Coal Ridge will face off against Timnath on Wednesday. Timnath knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past six games -- so hopefully Coal Ridge likes a good challenge. DSST: Green Valley Ranch does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
