Basketball Recap: Mogollon's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Friday

If Mogollon was riding high fresh off their 70-14 takedown of Mayer last Wednesday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Mogollon Mustangs took a 48-36 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Fort Thomas Apaches on Friday. The Mustangs were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Apaches apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in February of 2024.

Fort Thomas' victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Jamie Johnson, who posted 13 points along with six boards and three steals. Johnson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Adaia Lorenzo, who went 5 of 10 on her way to 16 points and four steals.

With the loss, Mogollon broke their five-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-5. As for Fort Thomas, the win was the fourth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 15-4.

Mogollon wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 59-35 victory against Ash Fork on the 11th. As for Fort Thomas, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 68-56 win against Rock Point on the 11th.
