Recap: Laughlin Cougars vs. Indian Springs Thunderbirds
The Laughlin Cougars were the 34-20 winner over the Indian Springs Thunderbirds when they last played one another back in December of 2022, but their luck changed this time around. Laughlin took a 40-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Indian Springs on Tuesday. Laughlin has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Despite the loss, Laughlin saw an underclassman step up: Amora Thomas scored 12 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Thomas has scored all season. Valeria Qunitero was another key contributor, scoring six points along with four steals.
Indian Springs was led to victory by Celina Pena and Oriyah Clay. Pena scored 12 points along with eight rebounds and six steals, while Clay dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds. Clay is absolutely dominating the steal category: she's posted at least two every time she's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Ava Hill, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Laughlin's defeat dropped their record down to 4-9. As for Indian Springs, the win was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 12-2.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Laughlin will face off against White Pine at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Indian Springs, they will head out on the road to square off against Tonopah at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Tonopah has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games.
