Preview: Wilbur-Creston-Keller Wildcats vs. Naselle Comets

Wilbur-Creston-Keller has enjoyed a five-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on the Naselle Comets at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Two weeks ago, Wilbur-Creston-Keller faced Curlew in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Wilbur-Creston-Keller blew past Curlew 56-12 at home. With Wilbur-Creston-Keller ahead 40-0 at the half, the match was all but over already.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Kalub Dreger out in front who rushed for 106 yards and three touchdowns on only eight carries. Dreger has been hot recently, having posted 100 or more rushing yards the last nine times he's played. Preston Michel was another key contributor, gaining 116 total yards and three touchdowns.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB five times. In that department, Adam Oates was the leader with three sacks.

Meanwhile, two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Naselle walked away with it. They put the hurt on Pomeroy with a sharp 78-58 win on Saturday. The win was nothing new for Naselle as they're now sitting on four straight.

Jacob Lindstrom continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 346 yards and seven touchdowns while picking up 13.8 yards per carry, and also throwing for 124 yards and a touchdown. Lindstrom is on a roll when it comes to rushing yards, as he's now rushed for 100 or more in the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jack Strange, who gained 194 total yards and three touchdowns.

Wilbur-Creston-Keller pushed their record up to 10-0 with that victory, which was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.3 points per game. As for Naselle, their win bumped their record up to 11-1.

Saturday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Wilbur-Creston-Keller has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 385.2 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Naselle struggles in that department as they've been averaging 377.3 per game. It's looking like Saturday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
