Basketball Game Preview: Pomeroy Pirates vs. Genesee Bulldogs

The Pomeroy Pirates will take on the Genesee Bulldogs at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this contest.

Last Monday, Pomeroy ended up a good deal behind Liberty Christian and lost 49-35. The Pirates have struggled against the Patriots recently, as the game was their third consecutive lost matchup.

The losing side was boosted by Jett Slusser, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 14 rebounds. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyzer Herres, who posted eight points and eight rebounds.

Meanwhile, Genesee played a tough match two weeks ago in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were outmatched by Clearwater Valley and fell 67-35.

Pomeroy will need focus on slowing down Noah Bollman, one of several Genesee players who made an impact when they last played. He put up 13 points in addition to five boards and three steals. That was a full 37.1% of Genesee's points, marking the fifth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Jackson Banks, who posted 11 points.

Genesee now has a losing record at 3-4. As for Pomeroy, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-5.

Everything came up roses for Pomeroy against Genesee in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, as the squad secured a 68-39 win. Will Pomeroy repeat their success, or does Genesee have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
