Baseball Recap: Amsterdam Comes Up Short

Amsterdam extended their losing streak to four on Friday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They came up short against the Broadalbin-Perth Patriots, falling 11-3. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Rams have suffered since April 25th.

As for Broadalbin-Perth, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 10-9 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.0 runs over those games.

For Broadalbin-Perth's part, they saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Blake Shields, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with two runs. Shields has become a key player for the Patriots: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise. Brady Vanvoast also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.

Looking ahead, Amsterdam will head out on the road to take on Hudson Falls at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Broadalbin-Perth, they will welcome Coxsackie-Athens at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The Riverhawks will roll in looking for their fourth straight victory, something the Patriots surely won't give up without a fight.
