Baseball Game Preview: Great Hearts Northern Oaks Griffins vs. Lutheran Mustangs

The Great Hearts Northern Oaks Griffins will take on the Lutheran Mustangs at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the matchup red-hot, with Great Hearts Northern Oaks sitting on three straight wins and Lutheran on six.

Great Hearts Northern Oaks will bounce into Tuesday's game after beating Randolph, who they had gone 1-8 against in their nine prior meetings. Great Hearts Northern Oaks had just enough and edged out Randolph 9-8 on Friday. While the Griffins didn't have the best season last year (they finished 9-14), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.

Nicholas Franzese made a splash no matter where he played. He struck out eight batters over six innings while giving up six earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with four RBI and one stolen base.

In other batting news, Eli Mazeika was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Santiago Garcia was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-4.

Meanwhile, Lutheran posted their closest victory since February 8th last Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against San Marcos Academy, sneaking past 6-4.

Like Great Hearts Northern Oaks, Lutheran also got a great game from a two-way player: Keegan Stinson. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out 14 over seven innings pitched. Stinson has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in three consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

Stinson wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Malachy King, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. Another was Jack Fiorenza, who went 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

Lutheran's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Great Hearts Northern Oaks, their victory bumped their record up to 6-3.
