Football Recap: Palmer Starts Season with Defeat at Home

Palmer unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-field advantage in their season opener. They had to suffer through a 41-3 loss at the hands of the Coronado Cougars. The Terrors lost against the Cougars in their previous head to head back in August of 2024, too, but the margin this time around was even wider than the 25-20 score last time.

Jaiden Vills threw for 31 yards on two of nine attempts. Messiah Rogan was his top target, picking up 26 receiving yards. On the ground, Kymani Dotson rushed for 53 yards.

Coronado's win on Friday was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Thomas Buckmiller, who threw for 310 yards and four touchdowns while completing 78.3% of his passes. The dominant performance also gave Buckmiller a new career-high in passer rating (159). Lyrik Smith was in the mix as well, providing Coronado with two scores.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Palmer will host Sierra at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Coronado, they will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against Lewis-Palmer at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday.
