The Dominguez Dons will square off against the Heritage Christian Warriors at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Dominguez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season.
Dominguez might be feeling deja-vu: they lost 10-1 to Norwalk, which was the same score (and result) they got the week prior. The defeat continues a trend for the Dons in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost seven in a row.
Dominguez saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lorenzo Rodriguez, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Heritage Christian). They were the clear victors by a 35-1 margin over Lakeview Charter on Friday. The win was nothing new for the Warriors as they're now sitting on three straight.
Nick Aguilar was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits (and only one walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in March. He was even better at the plate, scoring six runs and stealing a base while getting on base in five of his six plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Cullen Hirtensteiner, who scored five runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-5. Those five runs gave him a new career-high. Nicholas Boldt was another key player, going 1-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double.
Heritage Christian was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .548. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in five consecutive matches.
Dominguez's loss dropped their record down to 7-9-1. As for Heritage Christian, their victory bumped their record up to 13-4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Dominguez has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Heritage Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one. Check back here after the action for a full breakdown and analysis of the contest.
