Preview: False River Gators vs. Westminster Academy Crusaders
False River is 1-9 against Westminster Academy since January of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. The False River Gators will head out on the road to take on the Westminster Academy Crusaders at 6:00 p.m. False River is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses.
Last Tuesday, False River was beaten by Catholic of Pointe Coupee 60-33. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for False River in their matchups with Catholic of Pointe Coupee: they've now lost four in a row.
Despite their loss, False River saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Karson Lacombe, who scored 12 points along with six rebounds, was perhaps the best of all. Another player making a difference was Matthew Graffeo, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Meanwhile, Westminster Academy came tearing into Friday's match with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 points) and they left with even more momentum. They blew past St. Edmund 78-41 at home.
False River has not been sharp recently as the team's lost seven of their last eight games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-21 record this season. As for Westminster Academy, the win got them back to even at 12-12.
False River took a serious blow against Westminster Academy in their previous meeting back in December of 2023, falling 92-32. Can False River avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
