Basketball Game Preview: Roma Gladiators vs. Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots

Roma and Mission Veterans Memorial are an even 5-5 against one another since December of 2017, but not for long. The Roma Gladiators will welcome the Mission Veterans Memorial Patriots at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

On Friday, Roma ended up a good deal behind Rio Grande City and lost 56-41. The Gladiators have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mission Veterans Memorial). Couldn't have asked for a better way to wrap up 2024 than the 78-23 stomp they got against Juarez-Lincoln. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Patriots as it put an end to their four-game losing streak.

Mission Veterans Memorial's win came from a few key players Roma will need to keep an eye on. One of the most notable was Savanna Trevino, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and 12 assists. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in boards (four). Caylie Montalvo was another key player, dropping a double-double on 17 points and ten assists.

Roma's defeat dropped their record down to 10-14. As for Mission Veterans Memorial, their win bumped their record up to 9-10.

Roma came up short against Mission Veterans Memorial in their previous matchup back in November of 2024, falling 34-23. Can Roma avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
