Soccer Game Preview: University vs. Bridgeport

The University Hawks will head out on the road to square off against the Bridgeport Indians at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. University's offense has struggled lately (the team hasn't scored more than a single goal for three straight games), a trend the team is no doubt ready to end.

Tuesday just wasn't the day for University's offense. They came up short against Parkersburg last Tuesday, falling 3-0. While losing is never fun, University can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' West Virginia soccer rankings (they are ranked 69th, while Parkersburg are ranked 19th).

Meanwhile, Bridgeport hasn't lost a match since September 6th, a trend which continued in their latest game on Tuesday. They blew past Elkins 7-0. The result was nothing new for Bridgeport, who have now won ten matchups by four goals or more so far this season.

Bridgeport is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 16-1-2 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 72 goals over those 13 contests. As for University, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

University beat Bridgeport by a goal when the teams last played back in October of 2024, winning 2-1. Will the Hawks repeat their success, or do the Indians have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
