Football Game Preview: Chula Vista Spartans vs. Del Norte Nighthawks

The Chula Vista Spartans will head out on the road to take on the Del Norte Nighthawks at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Chula Vista is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Last Friday, Chula Vista had to suffer through a 38-9 loss at the hands of Olympian.

Chula Vista's defeat came about despite a quality game from Isaiah Heard, who rushed for 80 yards and one TD.

While Chula Vista came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Olympian: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 50%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Michael Marquez and Oberon Tamashiro, who each logged one passes deflected. Chula Vista wasn't nearly as limited: they posted one of 25%.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Del Norte). They really took it to Brawley for the full four quarters, racking up a 37-7 win. Given the Nighthawks' advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 164th, while the Wildcats are ranked 368th) , the win on Friday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Del Norte's defense made their presence known, laying out CJ Retutal. three times. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Jaidon Samuels, Brody Jundt, and Mason Lipumano, who each picked up one sack apiece.

The victory got Del Norte back to even at 2-2. As for Chula Vista, their loss dropped their record down to 1-4.
