Softball Recap: Sandia Prep Takes a Loss

Sandia Prep had lost three straight at home, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 3-14 to make it four. They lost 16-0 to the Estancia Bears. Surprisingly, this marked the Sundevils' fourth straight game in which the away team has come away the victor.

As for Estancia, the victory was the ninth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-2. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

For Estancia's part, Jhenna Valencia made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Valencia has been consistent: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in two of her four plate appearances with three runs. That's the most runs she has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Peyton Looper was a standout: she went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Rylynn Velarde, who got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two stolen bases, three RBI, and two runs.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Estancia beat Sandia Prep by a score of 17-2 later that day.
