Softball Recap: Waterford Lancers vs. Fitch Falcons
Waterford extended their losing streak to three on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 17-4 in the process. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 3-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Fitch Falcons. The Lancers were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Falcons earlier this season, when they won 9-2.
As for Fitch, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 13-6. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.3 runs over those games.
For Fitch's part, Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits. Merrill has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 13 consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Katie MacPherson was excellent, going 1-for-3 with one home run. Kenna Campbell also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
As of now, neither Waterford nor Fitch have any future games scheduled.
