Newton proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Thursday they proved they can win the close ones too. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 4-3 win over the Salem Wildcats. The victory was all the more spectacular given Newton's disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 219th, while Salem are ranked 95th).

Newton hit Salem with a three-pronged attack, as the team got scores from Brock Anderson (2), Henry Will, and Luke Farley.

Newton's win bumped their record up to 15-4-2. As for Salem, the loss snapped their winning streak at five matches and leaves them with a 16-3 record.

Newton does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Salem, they will challenge Harrisburg at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday.
