Softball Recap: Washington Academy Comes Up Short

Washington Academy and Orono squared off in some playoff action on Thursday, but Washington Academy had to settle for second. They fell just short of the Riots by a score of 4-2. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Raiders couldn't push the score so high this time.

Bella Cirone spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and three unearned) runs on one hit and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts any time she's pitched this season.

At the plate, Washington Academy saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Howard, who went 1-for-3 with one run.

Washington Academy's loss dropped their record down to 10-6. As for Orono, their record is now 9-7.

As of now, neither Washington Academy nor the Riots have any future games scheduled.
